Itinerary:

Monday, August 4 | Welcome to Dublin

  • Arrive at Dublin Airport
  • Meet with your English-speaking guide and driver and transfer to Dublin city center.
  • Visit Newgrange Megalithic Tomb
  • Panoramic Dublin city tour—Here you will discover the north and south side of the River Liffey. The south side appears more sophisticated with its vast Georgian squares, such as Merrion Square, where Oscar Wilde’s House can still be found (today owned by an American College), its colorful doors, along with Grafton Street and its quality shops. Not so far from St. Stephen’s Green, in Kildare St., you will see the house of Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula. This part of the city is also dominated by the students of Trinity College, where the famous book of Kells is permanently exhibited in its library. The university is facing the medieval district where Dublin Castle and the two Anglican Cathedrals can be found.

Tuesday, August 5 | Guinness Storehouse and St. Patrick’s Cathedral

  • Visit Guinness Storehouse—The Guinness Brewery in Dublin is Europe’s largest stout producing brewery and home to the Guinness Storehouse. Opened in 1904, the Storehouse was an operational plant for fermenting and storing Guinness. Launched on the fifth floor in 2011, “Five” at Guinness Storehouse, includes a small replica authentic Irish Bar, an 18th Century inspired Brewers Dining Hall, and a restaurant named Gilroy’s where guests enjoy a Guinness gastronomical experience driven entirely by the Irish tradition of wholesome local produce. Menus include local foods such as Ardsallagh goat’s cheese, Irish mussels from Carlingford and the Waterford Blaas bread supplied by MD Bakery in Waterford.
  • Explore Kilmainham Gaol—Kilmainham Gaol is a former prison in Kilmainham, Dublin, Ireland. It is now a museum run by the Office of Public Works, an agency of the Government of Ireland. Many members of the Irish Republican movement during the Anglo-Irish War (1919-21) were also detained in Kilmainham Gaol, guarded by British troops.
  • Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral—Built in honor of Ireland’s patron saint, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral stands adjacent to the famous well where tradition has it Saint Patrick baptized converts on his visit to Dublin. The parish church of Saint Patrick on this site was granted collegiate status in 1191, and raised to cathedral status in 1224. The present building dates from 1220. The Chancel has ornate stained-glass windows, and spectacular choir stalls, once used by the knights of St Patrick, adjoin the Altar. The massive west towers, houses a large peal of bells whose ringing tones are so much part of the character of Dublin.
  • Guided tour of Malahide Castle & Gardens—Malahide Castle is one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic castles. The 100-hectare estate was founded in the 12th century by the Anglo-Norman Talbot family and was occupied by this family until 1976. The castle contains much of its original 16th Century furnishings, a minstrel’s gallery and a unique collection of Irish historical portraits.

Wednesday, August 6 | Dublin to Cork

  • Depart Dublin and travel to Cork
  • Visit Kilkenny Castle—One of the most instantly recognized buildings in Ireland, Kilkenny Castle has been an important site since it was built by the Anglo-Normans in the 12th century. The castle has been remodeled in Victorian times and set in extensive parklands which was the principal seat of the Butler family, Marquesses and Dukes of Ormonde.
  • Visit Jerpoint Abbey—Jerpoint Abbey is an outstanding Cistercian abbey founded in the second half of the 12th century. The church with its Romanesque details dates from this period. In the transept chapels the visitor can see 13th to 16th century tomb sculpture. The tower and cloister date from the 15th century. The chief delight of the abbey is the sculptured cloister arcade with unique carvings.
  • Visit Rock of Cashel—Possibly the most photographed site in Ireland, the Rock of Cashel towers over the town of Cashel from its perch on a 200-foot high outcrop of limestone. Once the seat of the Kings of Munster. St. Patrick visited the rock in 450 AD, while Brian Boru was crowned the first high King of Ireland here in the tenth century. The Vicars Choral has been recently restored and its basement houses a small museum of artefacts found on the site. One of the leading visitor attractions in Ireland, in 2011 it was visited by Queen Elizabeth II on her historic first visit to the Republic of Ireland.

Thursday, August 7 | Cobh Heritage Centre and Blarney Castle

  • Visit Cobh Heritage Centre—A unique Irish port town, Cobh is situated on the southern shore of the Great Island in one of the world’s finest natural harbors. Between 1848 and 1950, over 6 million adults and children emigrated from Ireland including over 2.5 million from Cobh, making it the single most important port of emigration in the country. The Heritage Centre is located in the old Victorian Railway station in Cobh formally known as Queenstown. The steamers and ocean liners continued carrying the Irish to new lives and new lands for many years afterwards. Cobh Heritage Centre now offers a genealogy service, where the staff can assist you in tracing your Irish Ancestors.
  • Visit the Blarney Castle—Attracting visitors from all over the world, Blarney Castle is situated in Blarney village, 8 km from Cork city. An ancient stronghold of the McCarthy’s, Lords of Muskerry, it is one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic castles, and one of the strongest fortresses in Munster. Built in 1446, Blarney Castle is famous for its Blarney stone, the Stone of Eloquence, which is traditionally believed to have the power to bestow the gift of eloquence on all those who kiss it. Many legends tell the story of the Stone, but why not kiss it and find out the truth behind the legend.

Friday, August 8 | Cork to Killarney

  • Depart Cork and travel to Killarney
  • Visit Muckross House—This nineteenth century Victorian mansion is set against the stunning beauty of Killarney National Park. The house stands close to the shores of Muckross Lake, one of Killarney’s three lakes, famed worldwide for their splendor and beauty. As a focal point within Killarney National Park, Muckross House is the ideal base from which to explore this landscape.

Saturday, August 9 | Ring of Kerry

  • Enjoy a full day of the Ring of Kerry—The Ring of Kerry (166km) is the most famous and panoramic route in Ireland. The astonishing beauty of this large peninsula, Iveragh, comes from the great diversity of its scenery, which offers incessant contrasts. En route around the Ring, take in spectacular scenery – mountains, peat bogs, lakes and magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean as one travels along the coast road. Leaving Killarney pass through Killorglin, famous for its Puck Fair, then to Glenbeigh where the cliff road affords panoramic views of the Dingle Peninsula and Dingle Bay. Continue on to Sneem Village, famous for its brightly colored houses. The road then continues through the mountains to Molls Gap and Ladies View with superb views of the famous Lakes of Killarney.
  • Enjoy a jaunting car cruise—Killarney Jaunting Cars is a family-run business and has been operated and managed for over 220 years. Today the business is operated by Michael Tangney Senior and his children. Michael Senior and his two sons along with a team of drivers continue to welcome people from all over the world onto their jaunting cars. The company caters for both the individual traveler to large groups, and offers a variety of tour options to choose from.
  • Visit the grounds of Ross Castle—This Castle may be considered a typical example of the stronghold of an Irish Chieftain during the Middle Ages. The date of its foundation is uncertain but it was probably built in the late 15th century by one of the ODonoghue Ross chieftains. It is surrounded by a fortified bawn, its curtain walls defended by circular flanking towers, two of which remain.

Sunday, August 10 | Killarney to Ashford

  • Depart Killarney and travel to Ashford.
  • Visit the Cliff of Moher—Situated on the Atlantic Ocean and bordering the Burren region, the Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland’s most spectacular sights. Standing 230 meters above the ground at their highest point and 8km long, the Cliffs boast one of the most amazing views in Ireland. On a clear day, the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay as well as the valleys and hills of Connemara. The cliffs reach their highest point just north of O’ Brien’s Tower built by Cornelius O’ Brien, a descendant of Brian Boru, to entertain his lady friends. A visit of the tower is also possible. The sweeping view across the Atlantic has recently been ranked the best ‘cliff-view’ on the planet by Conde Nast Traveler.

  • Visit Teeling Whiskey Distillery—Guests are guided through the full production process of whiskey making, from mashing, to fermentation onto the distillation and then maturation. During this guided tour, visitors will learn how this flavorsome craft whiskey gets its unique smooth taste before culminating in the Tasting Bar where volunteers will be chosen for a comparison tasting test, while all others enjoy a glass of Teeling Small Batch neat, on the rocks or as an ‘Old Fashioned Cocktail’.

Wednesday, August 13 | Dublin to Belfast

  • Depart Dublin and travel to Belfast
  • Visit Tracy’s Farmhouse—Based in Comber, County Down on the shores of Strangford Lough, Tracey Jeffrey has a beautiful traditional cottage where she provides a traditional Irish bread making experience. The session starts with a traditional Irish Fruit Soda Cake, a sweet treat and delicious with lots of homemade Irish butter. While the Fruit Soda Cake is baking in the stove oven, guests will make some potato bread (or fudge as it is known locally). Tray-bakes are a typical sweet treat from Northern Ireland, and are delicious served with tea or coffee. Guests will sample foods as varied as single estate whiskey to artisan dulse wheaten bread.
  • Stop at Knowth Visitor Centre & Exhibition
  • Continue to Belfast
  • Visit the Titanic Belfast—Located in the heart of Belfast, the Titanic Belfast recreates the story of the world’s most famous ship in an iconic, six floor building right beside the historic site of the original ship’s construction. Opened in April 2012 to coincide with the centenary of its launch, the self-guided journey begins on entering the building’s giant atrium, where the visitor is surrounded by the four ‘ship’s hull’ shaped wings which house the Titanic Experience. As you journey through the nine large galleries of the interactive exhibition, you will uncover the true story of the Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900’s, through her construction and launch, to her famous maiden voyage and subsequent place in history.

Thursday, August 14 | Giant’s Causeway

  • Visit the Giant’s Causeway—Encounter Northern Ireland’s favorite giant Finn McCool at the new Giants Causeway Visitor center on the North Antrim coast which opened in the summer of 2012. According to legend Finn McCool created the Giants Causeway by building stepping stones to Scotland to challenge the Scottish giant Benandonner! The new Visitor center explores the major themes of mythology, geology, landscape, ecology, culture and social history based on the UNESCO World Heritage site that consists of 40,000 basalt polygonal columns formed 60 million years ago after a volcanic eruption. The walks and trails around the World Heritage Site have been upgraded, with the addition of a new accessible cliff top walk for families and people with disabilities.
  • Enjoy the Northern coastline region—This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at Local Irish Restaurant.
