MALTA: The Island of Respite – Explore the Baroque splendor of Valletta and the Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck. Journey further back in time to the 5,000-year-old Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum and the mysterious cliffside temples of Ħaġar Qim.

SICILY: Faith in the Shadow of Etna – Cross the sea to Syracuse to stand in the Greek Theater and explore the Catacombs of San Giovanni, where Paul first preached on Italian soil. Witness the power of nature on Mount Etna and the stunning volcanic fortress of Aci Castello.

SOUTHERN ITALY: The Mainland Mission – Retrace the ancient maritime route across the Straits of Messina. Visit the “Burned Column” in Reggio Calabria and walk the historic harbor of Pozzuoli, the very port where Paul first stepped onto the Italian mainland.

Day 1: Friday, April 2, 2027 – Arrival in Malta

Arrive in Malta and transfer to your hotel for check-in. After settling in, enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to explore your surroundings or relax. Gather for a welcoming dinner to kick off your journey.

Day 2: Saturday, April 3, 2027 – Malta

Step into the timeless streets of Malta’s capital for a guided exploration of its Baroque treasures. Highlights include a visit to the ornate Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck, a cornerstone of Maltese heritage and faith. Free time to enjoy a relaxing break at one of Valletta’s charming bistros or waterfront cafes. Then we will wander through the megalithic ruins of the Tarxien Temples before descending into the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, an extraordinary underground burial complex and UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 3: Sunday, April 4, 2027 – Malta – Pozzallo – Catania

Today, continue your exploration with visits to the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra. Perched on a rugged cliffside overlooking the sea, these prehistoric megaliths are among the best-preserved solar temples in the world, offering breathtaking views and ancient mystery. Then transfer for your evening ferry to Pozzallo, Sicily. Upon arrival in Pozzallo, transfer to your hotel in Catania.

Day 4: Monday, April 5, 2027 – Syracuse

This morning, travel to Syracuse, an ancient city where Paul rested during his voyage. Discover its impressive ancient theater, the acoustics of Dionysius’ Ear, and explore Ortigia, the ancient harbor. Visit St. Paul’s church (Church of San Giovanni) and other significant historical locations before returning to Catania.

Day 5: Tuesday, April 6, 2027 – Mt. Etna & Taormina

Experience Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, to take in the dramatic lunar landscapes and breathe in the crisp mountain air as you enjoy panoramic, breathtaking views stretching across the Sicilian countryside to the sparkling Ionian Sea. Continue to Aci Castello, a fortress overlooking the sea route traveled by Paul, and later explore the ancient town of Taormina, known for its Roman Odeon and lush Public Gardens.

Day 6: Wednesday, April 7, 2027 – Catania – Reggio Calabria – Salerno

Embark on a scenic ferry journey ride across the Straits of Messina to Reggio Calabria, believed to be a significant stop for Paul. Visit the Cathedral of Reggio Calabria, the largest religious building in the region, to see the burned column marking his legacy and enjoy some free time for lunch before ending your day in the coastal city of Salerno, where you’ll settle in for a relaxing evening by the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Day 7: Thursday, April 8, 2027 – Amalfi Coast

Wind along one of the world’s most spectacular coastal drives toward the historic town of Amalfi. Once a powerful maritime republic, this “Crusader Town” served as a vital link between Italy and the Holy Land. Enjoy free time in Amalfi. Head to Pozzuoli, where Paul landed on the Italian mainland, to spend a leisurely evening soaking in the atmosphere of this storied port city.

Day 8: Friday, April 9, 2027 – Pozzuoli & Pompeii

Begin your day in Pozzuoli at the very harbor where St. Paul disembarked after his long voyage. Visit the Pauline Plaque, a solemn tribute marking his first steps on the Italian mainland. Nearby, marvel at the Macellum (Temple of Serapis). Take a scenic pause overlooking Lake Avernus before traveling to Pompeii, the world’s most famous archaeological site. Walk through a city frozen in time by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Day 9: Saturday, April 10, 2027 – Pozzuoli – Rome

Physical Requirements

This tour is moderately physically demanding. The itinerary involves extensive walking and stairs, often on uneven terrain, ancient stone floors, and sand. Some areas are not easily accessible for those with limited mobility. The trip is manageable for most active adults, but should not be underestimated.
