Neil Helm’s first career of over 40 years was as a space scientist in commercial, government, and academic research centers. From 1991-2008, he was the Deputy Director of the Space and Advanced Communications Research Institute, School of Engineering and Applied Science of the George Washington University. His peers elected him to the International Academy of Astronautics and he was an expert witness to Congressional committees. Dr. Helm was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995 for his seminal research and development of global satellite disaster and search & rescue networks and systems credited with saving tens of thousands of lives. At age 70, after his retirement from GWU, he initiated a second career in psychology and he received an MA from Atlantic University and a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University. He is also a Clinical Hypnotherapist. Professor Helm retired in June 2018 as the Scholar in Residence at Atlantic University in Virginia Beach, VA, where he taught and assisted faculty and students with their research.
