As the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy celebrates it’s 20th year as a leader in holistic education, wellness and healthcare, the mission of the massage school remains much the same – to provide a quality, comprehensive education in both the art and science of massage therapy.

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy prides itself on the uniqueness of it’s massage curriculum that draws upon the wealth of insights on holism, healing, and personal transformation contained in the Edgar Cayce material and the massage style born out of these concepts by physiotherapist, Harold J. Reilly.

It is the transpersonal element weaved throughout the program courses that makes the Cayce/Reilly massage school unique and different from other massage school trainings; the foundation of an "ideal" as Cayce described and the awareness of an intention to be a channel for health and healing in the service to others - this body/mind/spirit orientation toward health and healing makes the massage school stand apart from others.

Also, the Cayce/Reilly Massage - an "overall wellness" massage treatment that focuses on relaxing and coordinating the nervous system (as described in the readings), rotation of joints and limbs and the stimulation of the organs and glands, performed in a specific "routine" with specific choices of oils (as described in the readings) - is truly the unique foundation of the program.

The staff and faculty of the Cayce/Reilly School are dedicated to providing a holistic educational environment of the highest standards, preparing students for a rewarding career in massage therapy. We view massage as a valuable and positive force that promotes health and supports personal growth, professional fulfillment, and spiritual awareness in the world. As we continually strive to offer students from every background and life experience the best educational program possible, the Cayce/Reilly School joins the A.R.E. in its mission to help people change their lives for the better through the ideas in the Edgar Cayce readings.

Since the school was granted a certificate to operate as a proprietary school in 1987 close to 1,000 students have graduated from the massage program and have received certification to practice as massage therapists. Many students have even chosen to enhance their massage education and have pursued studies in physical therapy, chiropractic care and as physicians of natural health.

Stewardship

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy is an affiliate of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. The A.R.E. is a nonprofit, membership organization, founded in 1931 by Edgar Cayce as a means of helping people change their lives for the better. Open to the public, the A.R.E. is an international organization that is administered by a board of trustees.

As a part of this unique organization, our massage students are able to enjoy the use of these facilities, which include a bookstore, library, meditation room, and meditation garden, as well as participate in conferences, workshops, and health symposiums.

History

The origin of the Cayce/Reilly School grew out of the A.R.E. Therapy Department (now the Health and Rejuvenation Center), founded in 1967 by Hugh Lynn Cayce and Dr. Harold Reilly, a well-known New York physiotherapist. Dr. Reilly developed the Cayce/Reilly Massage by combining his personal techniques with the inspired methods recommended in the Edgar Cayce readings. In 1985, Dr. James C. Windsor, then-president of the Edgar Cayce Foundation and Atlantic University, saw the need for a full-fledged school of massage in Virginia and began the development of this school. The Virginia Board of Education issued a certificate in March 1987 for the school to operate as a proprietary school, and it was named the Harold J. Reilly School of Massotherapy. It operated under that name until November 1997, when the name was changed to the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy in order to honor the major contributions of both men to this work.

Location and Facilities

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy is located on the beautiful A.R.E. campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The campus is located on 67th street, directly across from the Atlantic Ocean, and is composed of the original Cayce Hospital building, the Visitors Center, the Wynne building, and the carriage house. Also on campus is the newly renovated labyrinth, a beautiful meditation garden complete with waterfall, trees and plants that add an air of peace and tranquility.

The massage school's administrative offices, student clinic and bookstore, and lecture classroom are located on the first floor of the original Cayce Hospital building (now called the Headquarters Building), which was constructed in 1928.
