Planetary Cycles for Spring
By Nicholas Theo
Spring is a time to welcome renewed growth and activity. The strengthening sun animates long-dormant life, and it reminds us that, in truth, life is eternal. Cayce viewed astrology as a tool that gave us that continual connection to spirit so that we could achieve our goals that our soul chose to experience. He reminded us about maintaining that larger perspective:
“Also it is true that the earthly or earth’s sojourn is only a portion of the solar realm in which the soul finds self as an experience of a day in the earth’s sojourn.”
~ Edgar Cayce reading 553-1
Here we are reminded to view our activities and goals from the deeper soul’s perspective. Thus, our current life is like one pearl on a necklace strand. The silk thread is the connecting experience of the soul while the pearl is the substance manifested by our reactions to the events of that specific life. If we then look at it from this level, we can choose how we want the pearl that is our current life to appear as it sits alongside our other pearls.
This March we saw the final of seven exact matches in the running square between Uranus and Pluto that we experienced over the last few years. This square will define these last years just as the 1965-68 Uranus-Pluto conjunction was the defining energy for the 1960s—a decade of rapid social change and upheaval; and Saturn’s opposition to Pluto in 1931-33 defined the Depression and the rise of Fascism. On a broad level, the energy from the Uranus-Pluto square brought into sharper relief the gulf between political and social belief systems. The greater noise and acrimony that volleyed through the media and politics forced us to find our own truth from within. However, more importantly, and on a personal level, many individuals experienced life-altering changes through external and frequently unexpected circumstances that brought trauma through the loss of home, health, relationship, or status.
Now that the greatest intensity of this energy is past, we live our lives in a new energy space. On a mundane level, these last few years were difficult, so we were forced to find a new peace and balance from within. Therefore, although the most challenging parts are behind us, this new space requires some time for us to get used to it. Yet, we must move forward. Absence of doubt is a rare companion on the journey to follow your own inner direction. In one fairly long reading about astrology and sunspots, Cayce used the final part of the reading to express some eloquent spiritual thoughts. At the end of the reading he said, “Let not your hearts be troubled; ye believe in God. Then just act like it—to others.” (5757-1) Cayce reminded us that even when we have inner questions and doubts, in order to remain in the universal flow of life, we must move forward.
Cayce repeatedly stated the value of astrology. The cycles of the planets within our solar system reflect the many patterns we experience in life. In the last few years, one of those planetary cycles challenged us to step away from a pattern we no longer needed, and move into a new sense of self-awareness. Cayce explained: “The more ye become aware of thy relationships to the universe and those influences that control same, the greater the ability to help, to aid—the greater thy ability to rely upon the God-force within; but still greater thy responsibility to thy fellow men. For, as ye do it unto the least, ye do it unto thy Maker—even as to the Sun which reflects those turmoils that arise with thee; even as the earthquake, even as wars and hates, even as the influences in thy life day by day.” (5757-1)
Therefore, just as the spring energy renews nature, you can use its energy to renew ties and reach out to other people. The personal events that fell under the Pluto-Uranus square may have upended your life, or the life of a friend, family member, or a neighbor. In fact, you or they may still be in a muddle, and that is okay. However, the important thing to do now is to bridge links of support and encouragement as Cayce put it, “… ye believe in God. Then just act like it—to others.” Acting in the spirit of personal kindness and support is the antidote for these times, and if each one of us sows these seeds about us, this sustaining energy will take root, and then bring more balance to our world.

Nicholas Theo, an operations and strategic manager, was raised with the Cayce materials and his interest in astrology started as a teenager. Because the Cayce readings on astrology consistently emphasize the importance of using astrology as a tool for self-discovery and understanding rather than as a primarily predictive system, over the years, his interest in astrology evolved into a side vocation with research on the application of soul astrology (Soulastrologer.com). He has been doing astrology readings since 1980. He is a regular contributor to A.R.E.’s blog at EdgarCayce.org/blog. May 2015 Update
From the Desk of Kevin J. Todeschi
This is my update for May 2015 to A.R.E. members and friends who are interested in the new and exciting
trends occurring within Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. and Atlantic University. A number of exciting things are happening
this month! Please share the following with your friends:
This is the “Capstone Year” of our $30 million CREATE Campaign (capital, endowment, and program support)… and, thanks to some recent donations for our renovation project and upgraded technology (focused on world outreach), we have raised almost $28 million – just $2 million to go! $1 million of that is needed to renovate our Library and Conference Center (new restrooms, HVAC system, Library carpeting, expanding the auditorium, parking improvements, and upgrades throughout the building). Donors of $500 or more to the project will be listed on our Stairway to Heaven.
A.R.E. Camp is also raising funds to build a new shower house; our Prison Outreach program is expanding into prison libraries; and you are still supporting our various programs and our day-to-day operations through your Annual Fund donations as well. Thank you!
Golden Circle donors and Edgar Cayce Legacy Society members: Mark your calendars! Join us for our annual Donor Appreciation event the evening of Friday, June 26 at Virginia’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Details and invitations will be forthcoming.
TWO BOARD MEMBERS LEAD THE WAY TO STRENGTHEN STUDY GROUPS, HONOR DORIS VAN AUKEN
Board members Don Carroll and Lora Little (along with her husband Greg) have made it their priority to support the A.R.E.’s A Search for God Study Groups. Combined, they have pledged $75,000 to create funding for a new, part-time staff person to focus on nurturing Study Groups and they have created endowment funds which will support Study Groups for generations to come. The endowments will generate about $2,500 annually and – if you will add your donation to them – they could do even more. One fund is named in memory of Doris Van Auken whose decades-long dedication was inspirational to many. YOU are invited to contribute to “The Doris Van Auken Fund” in any amount if you wish to honor this wonderful woman’s memory. Thank you for your leadership and contributions, Don, Greg, and Lora!

Time for a Spiritual Call for Action
By Judith Lickert
Have the headlines of actions that have gained attention in the world left you feeling distraught, hopeless, or fearful? It’s quite understandable. Perhaps it’s time to try out a new perspective. Instead of seeing things as hopeless, what if we saw an opportunity to use our spiritual "muscle"?
You may be asking, what is my spiritual muscle? Perhaps a new perspective is required here, too. God is love. You and I were created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, you and I are love as well. Love isn't some airy-fairy emotion; it is the energy that the universe—thus you and I—are made of. The stars, the sun, the water, the earth, the plants, the trees, the animals, the cup you may be holding, the supplements you may be taking, and yes, even the medications. Love is the basis of everything; it is the fundamental building block, and you and I in our creation were given the ability to use it. And we do so all of the time, but perhaps not consciously. Now it is time to wake up.
How can you do this? Quiet yourself and reach within. Feel something stir. Don't think about it. Get out of your head, for your mind has been the keeper of the veil of forgetfulness. Go forth from your heart. Allow yourself to feel the energy in your body. Be aware of the energy around you and move this awareness out further and further until it reaches the stars. Use your imagination for it is centered in the heart and leads the mind. The energy within your body and surrounding it is all the same; it is love. The energy that holds the universe together while creating all about us is also within us. Allow yourself to remember this through your heart and connect with the power that has been given to you.
What can you do for the world? As you move through your day, with each thought, stay in your true being, in love. In each interaction with other people or situations, remember who you are and stay in love. It is possible. You build your spiritual muscle by using it. Maybe once a day at first, but the more it is used, the stronger and easier it becomes.
Since we are all part of the same whole, the One, as we change, we make it easier for all to change. We lift our own vibrations, and others feel that energy and want to join it. The desire creates the change. As the whole is lifted back into remembrance of whom it is, the world changes to reflect that energy.
Why spend your time and energy despairing for the condition of the world, when you can bring peace into your life and create a loving world by simply being what you really are? Do not believe that life has to be arduous; you are love and joy—be willing to accept that and live from it.
Here are some truths from the Edgar Cayce readings:
That which makes for the dividing line between the finite and the infinite, the divine and the wholly human, the carnal and the spiritual. For the will may be made one with Him, or for self alone. With the Will, then, does man destine in the activities of a material experience how he shall make for the relationships with Truth. What is Truth? That which makes aware to the inmost self or the soul the Divine and its purposes with that soul. (Edgar Cayce reading 262-81)
Why worry, when ye may pray? Know that the power of thyself is very limited. The power of Creative Force is unlimited. (Edgar Cayce reading2981-1)
Judith Lickert has been a student of the Cayce readings for over 40 years. She is a Life Member and a volunteer in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area. This past year she experienced some life-threatening illnesses. She has found that these have given her the opportunity to deeply recover some memory of who she really is and to live from it.
The Beauty of the Body—the Temple of God
By June Avis Bro
I have always trusted my body to pretty much heal itself , to warn me when I’m out of balance and could become ill, to get me where I’m going, and to gather the energy I need for specific tasks. I think that my trust of my body came from an incarnation in Egypt where Mr. Cayce said I taught the care of the body in the Temple Beautiful and probably witnessed the priest Ra-Ta rejuvenate his body after years of exile.
The body is intricately designed and extremely inventive whenever it responds to illness or trauma. I remember some research my husband, Harmon, reported on some 30 years ago. Someone had a serious injury to the eye and doctors explained how nearby tissue had moved in to help do the work of the injured and missing tissue and healed it.
At the 2014 A.R.E. Member Congress (an annual conference held at A.R.E.’s Virginia Beach headquarters), Sidney Kirkpatrick brought to the stage a man who had tuberculosis (TB) in his youth and spent years in sanitariums. Back in the 1920s and ‘30s, people with TB were treated as lepers, because the disease is very contagious and there was no cure. They went to the sanitariums to die. This patient, George, had heard of Edgar Cayce, gotten a reading, and started to use the same charred oak keg that was prescribed for Gertrude Cayce (when she had TB). He didn’t tell anyone about this, not even his family.
Later, an x-ray had shown George’s lungs were healed of TB and that his right lung had grown larger to handle the work of the left lung, which had become useless. Somehow, Sidney found George and arranged for him to come to the A.R.E. Congress to tell his story of healing.
Many Christians have for centuries been afraid of the body and its instincts and some even view the body as evil. Some religions teach that bodies, especially female bodies, have to be fully covered.
Edgar Cayce’s view of the body shocked people living in the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s. He said over and over again that the body is God’s gift to us, and we should treat it with the utmost respect—as the “temple of God,” which Jesus had said over 2,000 years ago.
This we should take seriously, because if we view the body as God’s temple, we will treat it differently. We will watch what we put into our bodies, we will watch what comes out of our mouths, and we will lead as balanced a life as possible—making a place for work, for laughter, and play; for music and the arts; for nature; and for reaching out to others in selfless service.
Nearly every temple, church, or mosque has a place for music and artworks. Edgar was an artist, an award-winning photographer. Although not trained in music, he had much to say about the positive influence music can have on people. As he was preparing to cross over, he heard heavenly music: the music of the spheres. The rapture on his face must have been beautiful to see. It was a final blessing on his life of dedicated service to God.
The holy emblem displayed at the center of a church, temple or mosque, signifies the focus, the ideal, the deep prayer and longing of the soul for connection with the Holy One. The body helps us make this connection with its endocrine gland centers.
Every church, temple, or mosque has pads for us to kneel on. As I get down on my knees, I offer my mind, body, and spirit to God. Edgar’s term for God was often “the Creative Forces.” I love this name for God, because it suggests God’s creativity is in me too. I actually join my creativity with God’s creativity, and together we produce something wonderful.
So we are body, mind, and spirit. One is not less than the other. All three aspects of us must work together to bring us closer to God.
When my granddaughter Katie was four, she took her first plane ride. I asked her how she enjoyed her flight. She said, “Oh, Gramma, the plane went up and up and up and pretty soon I was right next to God!” That’s what the physical, glandular parts of our bodies can do for us if we learn to train the body to be still and cooperative, the mind to be quiet and focused, and the spirit to be free and guided by the Holy One.
Spirit that uses matter, (the body as temple), that uses every influence in the earth’s environ for the glory of the Creative Forces, partakes of and is a part of the universal consciousness. (3508-1)

Dr. June Avis Bro found her life deeply affected by working daily with Edgar Cayce when she and her husband, Harmon, came to Virginia Beach in 1943. She has a graduate ministerial degree from Andover-Newton Theological School, near Boston, and a doctorate from Chicago Theological Seminary. In addition to teaching while raising five children, she has been a research assistant at Harvard, lectured and held workshops in many cities, led overseas tours to the Near East and China, and served as pastor. A concert pianist, she draws on her background in the arts to illuminate myths, symbols, and dreams. At age 90, she released her first piano CD called “Soul Soundings,” which is being sold in the A.R.E. Bookstore. Her column for A.R.E.’s Venture Inward magazine, "The Art of Living," is based on her life reading given by Mr. Cayce in 1944. She wrote the forward to the re-released book A Seer Out of Season written by Harmon Bro.
